Why Roof Plumbers Are A Separate Speciality Trade That You Will Need
Everyone is familiar with the major trades practised around the country: plumbers, electricians, carpenters, bricklayers, roofers, HVAC technicians, etc. What many people don't realize is that beneath these larger labels are more specialised trades that perform vital jobs in many homes and businesses. If you don't know about them, however, it is impossible to know who to contact to work in that particular area. That is why it is so important you familiarise yourself with what a roof plumber is and how they can help you.
Guttering
One of the main jobs a roof plumber does is to attach all the gutters and pipes that disperse water from your roof. It is no simple task as these gutters have to be the correct size for your roof (bigger roof = bigger gutters), be watertight so they don't leak on your balcony or down your walls and do this all quite high off the ground. Many people have no idea which trade specializes in guttering, but almost every task that is related to water and the roof will be done by a roof plumber.
Rainwater Tanks
Rainwater tanks are almost always connected to the roof through a series of downpipes that connect to the gutters. Due to this, most roof plumber operations will cover the installation of the plumbing needs on the roof all the way down to the rainwater tanks on (or under) the ground. If you aren't sure how big a rainwater tank you need, a roof plumber can help you asses the size of your roof and the likely volume of water that will come down in a downpour. Roof plumbers can also help you attach the rainwater tank to the garden or to other recycled water applications.
Flashings
Water can be very damaging to certain aspects of your roof if it is allowed to continually erode them, which is why flashing is often put around their base to stop water affecting them. These flashings have to be installed properly or they, too, can be eroded over time and fall off. Roof plumbers are there to make sure your roof is as waterproof as it possibly can be. The last thing you want is for your vents to spring a leak and start leaking in a thunderstorm. Flashings stop this from happening and also make the whole roof look neater by providing borders around different features.
